About Judge Williams
The Honorable Charles E. Williams is a Judge for the 12th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Sarasota County, appointed to the bench by Governor Lawton Chiles in 1997.
Judge Williams holds a law degree from the University of Florida and an undergraduate degree from Howard University. Recognized for his dedication to community service and justice, he has received awards from the Manatee and Sarasota County chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the prestigious CL McKaig Award from the Sarasota County Bar Association.
Outside the courtroom, Judge Williams is a talented filmmaker, known for his award-winning documentaries "Through The Tunnel" and "Newtown at 100". His passion for storytelling and diversity in film earned him the Sidney Poitier Family Award.
He also serves on the Boards of Embracing Our Differences, Florida Studio Theatre, and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and is deeply committed to mentoring future legal professionals through his work with the Booker High School Law Academy.
