About President O'Shea
Donal O’Shea, PhD, is a mathematician and bestselling author who served as the fifth president of New College of Florida from 2012 to 2021.
Before joining New College, he held key roles at Mount Holyoke College, including Professor of Mathematics, Dean of Faculty, and Vice President for Academic Affairs. O'Shea earned a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard and a PhD from Queen’s University in Canada.
A published author of seven books, he is known for his contributions to mathematics, having received the Peano and Leroy P. Steele Prizes. During his tenure at New College, he spearheaded initiatives like the Cross College Alliance and a dual-degree program with the University of Florida.
